About Patience
Producer and Director
Patience Tawengwa is a film, television and theatre director and producer. She has won the following awards: the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Best Short Film Project Award (2008), International Images Film Festival Short Film Award (2008), National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) Outstanding Theatrical Production Award (2009) Zimbabwe Theatre Association (ZITA) – Best Production Award (2011) and University of Zimbabwe Theatre Arts Award - Inspirational Woman in theatre (2012). Her theatre productions have toured in South Africa, Zambia, Algeria, Scotland, Ireland, and Sweden. Patience is an alumnus of the following talent development programs – the Berlinale talent campus (2008), HIFA- Direct (2008/2009/2010), Hollywood in Focus (2016) and CineFAM Co-Production Accelerator (2017). Patience has produced and directed several documentaries and various content for television and film. In 2010 Patience was profiled as one of the emerging outstanding African directors in the book Theatre Sudlich De Sahara/Theatre in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2020 her theatre work was profiled in the World theatre encyclopaedia. Patience has served on the adjudication board for Zimbabwe’s National Arts and Merits awards (2015 - 2017). She worked as an independent producer for Scoop Network Africa, the Pan-African entertainment news channel. Patience is the founder of the production company, Zambuko Creative which focuses on creating and developing bold, brave, and socially conscious stories. She is currently a postgraduate student studying for a master’s degree in international film business which is jointly offered by the University of Exeter and London Film School
